Autumn 2006 Final Body of Work (for exam)

For my 2nd year Autumn semester I created a 'body of work'
comprising 4 pieces. These were unrelated to each other
and used different materials and techniques.

'Out of the Belly of Woman God Created Evil'
This piece represents evolution of the human male
though sexual selection by the female of the species.

I had to use a pulley to lift the concrete and steel
egg high enough so I could gets ropes under it to form
a cradle for it to rest in.

The concrete egg represents the female, womb and home.

The ropes represented the Earth in which we all live.

The arm, clearly man made, represents the aggressive male.
As can be seen, it is crushing the next generation 'egg'
in a steel fist. The sword which penetrates the large
egg and starts the evolutionary process.

I added a fired clay gauntlet to enhance the
'power' of the hand.

This piece is called 'He So Loved' and is a piece
in homage to Andres Serrano's 'Piss Christ'
The slogan on the teddy-bear, 'I Love You This Much' is
so close to what the bible says about the crucifixion that
I had to use it in this work.

72 Virgins, the piece below is a very thought provoking
painting/collage. It depicts the falsehood in the promises
made to suicide bombers. They are promised 72 virgins if they martyr
themselves and these cards promise fun and sexual pleasure
which is also a lie
The wires hint at the bomb electrics used by such lied to fanatics

My final piece is a slogan placed around my university.
It is a 'say what you see' slogan which is correct and un-offensive
but it as a different effect when placed in the black and white
photography department where it becomes interventionist
